#MediaMonday – Catherine Anaya

Each Monday, we are posting a blog to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week!
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Catherine Anaya.
So, Catherine, time to share!
What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
I’ve been anchoring news now for 20-years but my passion for it is still as great as it was the first time I went in front of a camera.
I love telling stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and giving a voice to those who might not otherwise get heard. As one of the few Latina anchors in this market, I’m blessed and grateful to represent a community within a community and hopefully give young Hispanics something to aspire to.
As a working, single mom of two I struggle to find balance with being a good mother and having a career. It’s a constant work in progress but I hope my children will see me as a role model for hard work and determination and a deep desire to not only make a difference in their lives… but in the lives of others.
I’m a motivational speaker and find great reward in sharing some of the challenges I’ve faced in life. It creates connection – and with other women especially – a sense of empowerment not just for me but those I speak with. It’s led me to form a group I call the Sisterhood of Super Women. Each month we get together to celebrate, embrace, encourage and inspire each other to give ourselves credit for all the things we DO – something we DON’T DO enough.
I’m also a big believer in healthy living. I’m a fitness fanatic – a marathon runner who’s become faster in my 40’s than I ever was in my 30’s. It’s a great way to stay in shape – but for me it’s more about feeling good inside and out and proving that age is just a number. I’m most creative when I’m running. It feeds my soul and gives me clarity and energy to face the day.
I’m also a published magazine writer who would one day like to write a book – just as soon as I find a way to get 48 hours into a 24 hour day!
