2015 PRSA Copper Anvils Showcase the Best in Public RelationsSeptember 4, 2015
As a somewhat newbie to the PR world, I am always looking for ways to learn more about the industry. Heck, no matter how long you’ve been in the business,
But how do you do that when you’re behind a desk or running from meeting to meeting all day? Utilize your resources!
- Sign up for industry related newsletters! I love getting to my desk every morning and opening my email to find updates from different industry experts. Some of my favorites are PR Daily, The Skimm and Social Media Examiner. Catching up what’s going on all over the world, and in the PR world, is a great way to start the day.
- Join a professional society. Joining a local professional society is a great opportunity to network with other professionals and learn what is working for them (and the meetings almost always come with food!). Each meeting is usually centered around an industry related topic like this media breakfast focused on the food and beverage industry, or this luncheon that covered measuring success.
- Get as much hands-on experience as possible. One of the best ways to learn is to do. Ask to sit in on client meetings, take initiative on projects and make sure you’re taking note of everything you’re working on and how you can better develop your skills. Most importantly, learn from your mistakes.
