No, I am not talking about spending half an hour by the water cooler discussing the downfall of American Idol or snipping about a crazy co-worker.
Instead, I am talking about turning a phrase we all use at least 10 times a day into a communications advantage: How are you?
But, really ask – and really care.
You would be surprised how much information you can get by asking someone how they really are and what is really going on in their lives – I think of it as creating positive gossip.
