Most people who’ve ever met me know two things about me pretty quickly: I love sports…and I talk unusually fast.

Guilty as charged. But hey, both traits have served me well, especially when it comes to networking. Give me 90 seconds with a group of any size, and I can give you a rundown of every major sports story of the day, especially involving the Phoenix Suns, Notre Dame Football or the NFL.

Given this, it was a natural fit for me to join Suns Charities 88 last year as a founding member, thanks to an assist from former HMAer, current Queen of Phoenix Business Journal events and new momma Jo Pullen.

Named after Phoenix Suns Charities’ inaugural year, 1988, is a partnership with presenting donor Wells Fargo Bank and focuses on three main principles: professional development, collaborative partnerships and philanthropy. In addition to offering its members the opportunity to network and grow as professionals, the group raises funds for Phoenix Suns Charities, which has granted more than $13 million to Arizona youth and their families since 1988.

We finished up our inaugural season in recent weeks – and yes, I did use my sports IQ and fast-talking skills at length all season long. Even more impressive than this, however, was that our group was able to raise $125,000 for Phoenix Suns Charities in just the few months since we started! The fund will go toward aiding Arizona children in need.

“Phoenix Suns Charities is extremely proud of this group of community minded professionals,” said Robin Milne, executive director of Phoenix Suns Charities. “Hundreds of children throughout the Valley will be helped due to the commitment and collaboration of these individuals. I am excited to see all of the great things that will be accomplished in the upcoming year.”
