As a regular “tweeter,” the handle @getglue has been popping up in my twitter feed for quite some time now. Like Google Plus I was intrigued by this new social networking outlet that people were utilizing. Unlike Google Plus, I’m actually returning to the app on my iPhone regularly.

Why, you ask?

  1. Like Alison, I’m a reality TV addict (seriously, check out my twitter profile)
  2. I love games (seriously, check out my bio)
  3. GetGlue doesn’t allow for the Foursquare stranger danger effect. Meaning no one can stalk your whereabouts; they’ll just know what your favorite TV shows are, what books you’re reading and what music you’re currently listening to.
  4. Best yet, you get stickers for it; just like the badge concept on Foursquare.

And honestly, who doesn’t like talking about their favorite TV shows, book characters and bands around the water cooler come Monday morning?

With more than one million users that check-in and share what they’re watching, listening to and reading, users can connect to their friends via twitter and Facebook and before you know it you may just be learning about a new good summer read, hearing about friends opinions on a movie that just came out or finding out that one of your Twitter followers has the same obsession with that horrible TV show you can’t stop watching.

In short, GetGlue not only saves our precious lives from stranger danger, but it lets users share their entertainment favorites with the world while also engaging in a sticker-collecting game of sorts. With an endless array of apps, networks and geo-tagging devices, I’d say this one is worth opening an account.

I would be curious to know if this is more effective than using a hashtag on twitter? Is there more engagement? More fun?

  2. Stephanie Lough says:
