haters6In a recent article on Forbes.com, contributor and public relations consultant Robert Wynne took some pretty pointed shots at fellow PR folks, aka you and me.

In his article, available here, he roasted 12 of the “baloney B.S. terms pushed around by public relations professionals who like to seem well-informed.”

Among the terms were several we use on our office, including:

  • Thought leadership, which is an easy way we describe to clients how we seek to position them as experts in their field in media placements
  • First-Ever, which we use in AP Style when referring to the first year of an event, because it can’t be annual until year three

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am a jargon-hater. But, I am a people lover – and fiercely protective of the hard-working people in my industry. I don’t make fun of my colleagues and friends to get my point across or to get my clients press. To use one of his most-hated terms, that wouldn’t be very “strategic public relations,” now would it?
