Spike The FootballWe’ve written before about some of the over-the-top things we do for our clients, like dress up as their mascot.

At a recent Arizona Association for Economic Development luncheon, Jeanine Jerkovic, a business attraction administrator for the city of Glendale’s Economic Development Department, introduced the mascot for Super Bowl XLIX:  “Spike the Ball.”

 

I couldn’t help but smile at the cleverness of the name, and Jeanine’s description of Spike as a perfect Arizona symbol:

  • Mirrored glasses
  • Leathery skin
  • Sometimes terrifying to small children

We could certainly create a lengthy list of things that symbolize the Grand Canyon State.

I don’t know how much Spike will get involved in all of the Super Bowl activities when the mega-event comes to the Valley early next year –  and I don’t know if you can really consider Joe Namath and his fur coat as the mascot for this year’s big game -- but whatever assignments Spike gets, I’m sure he’ll do better than “Broadway Joe,” who botched the coin flip!

No matter what, 2015 will again put the spotlight directly on Arizona and all it has to offer.
