It made me feel good. A “member.” Like I was included in some sort of club.
Then I started thinking, when is a customer not a customer?
Even K-Mart customers aren’t customers: Of course you’ve heard: “Attention K-Mart shoppers…?!!”
Here at HMA Public Relations, we don’t have customers either, we have clients. I’d say the same thing for most law and accounting firms. When the business arrangement is more relationship-driven rather than transactional, client is more appropriate.
But, it’s not always bad being a customer. After all, customers are always right. And, I have said to my dentist for years, “Please don’t call me a patient – I am not sick. I’d rather be a customer or client.”
When else is it better to be a customer? Or not.
