Marcus Luttrell, author of the best-seller Lone Survivor, was the featured speaker at a recent EO event.

Luttrell’s book is about his quest to become a U.S. Navy SEAL followed by his deployment in Afghanistan.

While there, his mission was to capture or kill a leading Taliban member thought to be allied with Osama Bin Laden. While hiding out one night in June, 2005, his four-man team encountered three Afghanistan shepherds, including a 14-year-old boy. The team debated whether they should spare or kill the three shepherds. By upholding the Rules of Engagement, they decided to let the shepherds go. About an hour later, the four seals were surrounded by over 100 Taliban warriors, forcing the SEALs to fight against impossible odds.

Luttrell was the lone survivor. He’s still emotional about the ordeal.

His views on the war are interesting. He thinks we’d win and be out of there in a couple of weeks if the military was running the war rather than politicians and lawyers who care more about perception and image than American soldiers’ lives.

He also thinks the American media does not portray what is really happening over there.

During his presentation, he expressed himself with the vigor you’d expect from a Special Forces hero.
