Congratulations are in order for the recipients of 2010 PRSA Phoenix Copper Anvils and Awards of Merit! We celebrated the accomplishments of Phoenix public relations practitioners at the annual Copper Anvil awards ceremony last night at the Hotel Valley Ho.

The party took on a different format this year – cocktails and heavy hors d’ oeuvres rather than a seated dinner – and guests enjoyed music by Mr. P-Body, fun Flipbook Memories and a host of awesome raffle prizes.

Overall, five Copper Anvil awards and 11 Awards of Merit were given out. Here’s a breakdown of the night’s award recipients:

Additional recognitions given at the ceremony:

  • Phoenix Chapter past president Felice Appell was given the PERCY Award, which is earned by an individual who has demonstrated excellence in the practice of public relations, actively supported PRSA and the Phoenix Chapter, and made positive contributions to the Phoenix community. Felice’s family was on hand to surprise her as she was honored.
  • Phoenix Chapter president Abbie S. Fink recognized Chapter volunteers.
  • ASU PRSSA president Matt Culbertson was awarded a $1,500 student scholarship from the Phoenix Chapter. Matt is currently an intern at Olson Communications and is a senior studying public relations and digital media at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
  • Awards of Appreciation were given to Nancy Syzdek, APR, PRSA Western District chairperson, and KTVK’s Javier Soto, the emcee for the evening.

Congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients! We HMAers had a great night at the Copper Anvils. As the name of the event denotes, it was all about celebrating the real life achievements of our peers. It really was all that and more.
