Helen Slater and I may share sassy blond hair and the ability to effortlessly pull off a cape and boots, but that is about it.

Why?

Because she is Superwoman (well, Supergirl to be exact) – and I am not.

And thanks to – of all things – the PRSA Western District Conference last month, I am cool with it.

You see, during the multi-day communications conference, I chose to attend a session called “7 Lessons to Brand You” with Cyndee Wooley, APR. (Disclaimer: This blog is about to go off the rails, so if you want to learn more about the actual seven lessons, feel free to click here and continue considering me a Superwoman).

During the session, in order to determine what our personal brands truly were, we took a quiz about ourselves, much to this semi-professional Cosmo Magazine quiz taker’s delight. It started with a simple question: Name five personal and/or professional goals you wish to achieve in the next five years – and be honest. Eager to be the first one done with the quiz, I quickly scribbled the top five things that honestly came to my mind:

  • Lose weight (don’t lie – that’s your real number one too!)
  • Spend more quality time – and less housecleaning time – with my adorable hubby
  • Eat more great food and taste new wines
  • Offer to babysit my friends’ kids now and then so I will secure my place as the favorite “Aunt” before both the kids’ real aunts and my other friends catch on to my plan
  • Take my mom to Europe

Wait a second – where were the career goals, and why didn’t they come to mind until at least number eight or nine?

Now, don’t get me wrong. If you’ve met me, you know I am driven and dedicated to both my professional and charitable works. But here is the thing – they get a lot of my attention. Apparently, judging from the above, maybe a little too much lately?

So there it was – my brand is not, in fact, solely business superwoman – and I need to stop only doing things that brand me as such, both at work and at home.

My first step: I am headed off on an Alaskan cruise May 24 to June 1, where I will:

  • Trek a glacier and repel in a rainforest, helping me to potentially lose weight
  • Enjoy daily housekeeping service while watching Cirque-inspired theatrical productions and comedy shows, team trivia challenges and nightly karaoke jams with my hubby, quality time if I do say so myself
  • Hide from the ship’s kids’ club, so I will be able to come home refreshed and able to volunteer in babysitting duties for my friends
  • Wine taste every single day, thanks to Cellar Masters, and try chef-inspired specialties of the Pacific Northwest, thanks to Blu
  • Take a good, hard look at 2014 European sailing opportunities with my momma

Now it’s your turn – answer fast with the first things that come to your mind – what are your top five personal and/or career goals in the next five years? Surprised by your honest answers, too? Might yours inspire some changes in Brand You this year?
