How many of you know your company or organization’s mission statement?  How many of you actually HAVE a mission statement?

I came across an article in Inc. magazine this month highlighting the mission statement of Holstee’s – a New York-based company that sells eco-friendly clothing and accessories. I had never heard of them.  But after reading their mission statement, I just had to find out more about them. And if you check out their website, the mission statement is the first thing you see in the “about us” section.

The statement really has nothing to do with the company and all to do with the people that work there.  According to Fabian Pfortmuller, one of the founders of the company, they wrote the mission statement a few months after starting the company.  It is a reflection of who they are as entrepreneurs and the kind of life they want to lead as a result of the success they hoped to achieve.   And that it would serve as a great reminder of why they started the company.

Fabian’s favorite line… “life is about the people you and the things you create with them.” Mine is “life is short, live your dream and share your passion.”

What might your mission statement be?

I love this! I pinned that poster on Pinterest ( http://pinterest.com/stephlough/living/ ), no idea it was a mission statement.

Not sure if it qualifies as a mission statement, but it’s the closest thing I got: “Be relevant.” It seems too simple at first, but when you stop and think about it, everyone wants to be relevant, and PR ,in the simplest of definitions, is keeping clients’ awareness alive. It works in work and life because if you are not relevant, then you are irrelevant, which by definition is insignificant or pointless.

I think I’ll add it to my sig like Scott’s “Get noticed”.

Very inspiring to read the Holstee mission statement and watch their Lifestyle video. Our corporate mission statement is simple: Appreciate, Connect, Create, and Share.
