#MediaMonday – Tim Hattrick

Each Monday, we are posting a blog to help our readers get to know the media just a little bit better.
With a TWIST!
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week!
Today’s #MediaMonday comes to us from Tim Hattrick of the longtime morning radio team of Tim and Willy.  Tim started his career in Flagstaff, moved to Phoenix and had stops in Tucson and Chicago before coming back to Arizona.   Stations including KNAU-FM, KZKZ-AM, KNAZ-TV for a brief stint as a weekend weatherman, KDKB-FM, Y-95 where he was paired with Glenn Beck, KRQ-FM, WKXK – Kicks 94.7 in Chicago, KNIX-FM and KMLE-FM have all been broadcasting homes for Tim and his morning show partner, Willy D. Loon.
Well, the pair recently found themselves unemployed.
So guys, time to share!

What do you want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?

How are we doing?  Not good….WE’RE GREAT!
Getting fired from KMLE Country 108 in late July was almost amusing to Willy and me.
Maybe not so much for our show mates, Andrea Hiland, who’s been with us for more than 15 years, or our young producer, Jeramy Hubbard, who got an eye-opening backstage pass to the harsh realities of modern radio.  Neither received any severance.
But the pink slip for Willy and me really felt like a ticket to our future!  We’re finally unhitched from the old and are now free to fully pursue the new.  We’ve had a sense for some time that radio as a business — and our show in particular — was stuck in a “This Is How We’ve Always Done It” rut.  Obviously the world has changed and our medium has been slow to keep up.
Willy and I have been dreaming and scheming; planning for the day we can take our talents, our brand, and our loyal following, built over 20 years, to the wide-open frontier of Digital Entertainment.  Ten years ago it was a wild dream to think a show could be its own radio company.  Five years ago it seemed possible.  Today the revolution is starting to break.  Go to a Radio Shack.  Try to buy a radio.  They don’t sell them anymore.  They might not even know what you’re talking about!  But search for your favorite DJs or music style in the app store of your Smart Phone and there they will be — just a simple touch away!  The good news?  The whole world is our market.  The bad news?  The whole world is our competition.
But for everyone who says “yeah- but you can’t make money on the internet…” I’m reminded of the same talk when AM radio was king and all the new and innovative programs and personalities were experimenting on FM. I’ve always thought it would have been cool to be in radio when television came along.  A vast array of unique and fascinating opportunities arose from a new invention that needed entertainers, journalists and broadcasters.  I think we’re standing on the brink of another new era.  It’s about to tip.
Perhaps Tim and Willy are not completely done with “Antenna Radio” just yet.  But when we come back we’ll be migrating our large and loyal following from the dial to the digital.  One day soon you will be able to listen, watch and interact with Tim and Willy anywhere in the world and on YOUR schedule.   The method of delivery has and will change but the essence of our show will not.  Tim and Willy are not finished!  In fact, we’re just getting started!
For now you can enjoy new and hilarious content every day on our website www.timandwilly.com.  You can also follow us on facebook.com/TimandWilly and Twitter @TimandWIllyShow. To subscribe to our latest show search Tim and Willy in the iTunes store.
We’re happy.  We’re having fun.  We’re busy planning our full-fledged return.  And…we’ll be right back!
