#MediaMonday – Tara Twietmeyer

ABC15 media coordinator Tara Twietmeyer has a bug – the news bug.
Learn all about her in today’s #MediaMonday, a profile blog we post each week to help everyone get to know the local, regional and national media a little better.
New to #MediaMonday?
No, we aren’t posting story pitch tips or media lists, but instead great stories from the media themselves about their lives, their work and other little known facts! Think of it as your first “networking” opportunity of the week! (For a look at recent profiles, please click here.)
So, Tara, time to share!
I think some people are just born with it: the news bug.
I remember when I was just a toddler, with ribbons in my hair and “strawberry” scrapes on my knees, and I’d walk around the neighborhood with one of those plastic Fisher-Price voice recorders; you remember, the clunky white recorder with the red microphone, asking questions and talking to just about any one or thing in sight.
Fast forward a few years and you’d find me sneaking down the stairs at 5 a.m. to claim “my spot” on the couch next to dad for the morning news.
Like I said, it was in my blood.
During my final year studying Television Broadcasting at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, KTVK-TV, Channel 3 offered me an associate producer’s position for “Good Morning Arizona.”
Immediately, I quit my cocktail-serving job and jumped at the chance to work from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Hey, we all started somewhere.
The rest of that year was mostly a blur, as I was working overnights, a fulltime student and playing like a college student on the weekends.
After a year an a half, I moved over to ABC15, also as an associate producer, with much better hours! For the next two years, I was busy writing and editing stories for several primetime newscasts, our website and social media platforms.
I also launched a weekly, syndicated relationship column; She Said, He Said! The good, the bad and the ugly in relationships.
But again, I found myself looking for more ways to curb my craving and started looking internally for a new challenge.
Now, you’ll find my name under ABC15’s promotions media coordinator.
I’ve decided to try my hand at public relations, community involvement and promoting our local as well as national ABC.
As my adventure continues, a few things still hold true:

  • I’m still as inquisitive as ever
  • I continue to claim “my spot” on the couch for the morning news (now dad is just a phone call away, not next to me)
  • It’s still in my blood.
