#MediaMonday – Doug Meehan

Every Monday, HMA introduces you to a member of the media – the new and the seasoned – that keep our local and national news gears turning.
Today we hear from Doug Meehan who has just relocated 2,700 miles to Phoenix from Boston and is a new anchor at 12 News Today! In Boston Doug was the host of “The Doug Meehan Show” at WTKK-FM Boston Talks and while there he worked as a contributor to The Wall Street Journal Radio Network. Prior to that Doug was the helicopter/entertainment reporter for Fox News in Boston.

Doug- What would you like to share with the blogosphere today?

Being the new co-anchor of “12 News Today” is exciting! First of all I want you to know that I was enthusiastic to leave the cold, snowy weather of Boston for what I was told was mild “temps.”  But the last few weeks in Phoenix have been quite cold and rainy, which is not much of a change, but I look forward to that summer “dry” heat everyone keeps telling me about.  I took some great video of my journey across the country which you can view on my Facebook page (I suggest watching “It’s official… We are out west!”)
From the age of 12 when my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said I wanted to be on TV.  That is the path that I took, including getting my degree in Mass Communication, with a concentration in broadcasting, from Westfield State College (Go Owls!),  and I have never looked back. There have been many amazing opportunities along the way including reporting during the first-ever ESPN X-Games, many red carpet  movie premieres in Hollywood, London and Berlin, the SXSW Music Festival, the Little League World Series and many others.
When I am not working, and yes that does involve getting up at 2 a.m., I enjoy spending time with my friends, drinking wine and sharing a good laugh. There is nothing better than being present in the moment with the people you love.
And finally, I am happy to report that the one gigantic party known has the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale lived up to its name.
