Instagram for BusinessInstagram officially announced its new business features months ago (back in May actually), but its uses and benefits have flown pretty far under the radar. I’ve put together a quick list of why you should considering switching over to a business Instagram profile.

  • It adds a contact button to your profile. It’s easier for people to contact you. If you have your address, phone number and email all listed as methods of contact, it gives users the option to contact you through the app. No more going to the website and then finding the contact page—it’s right there in Instagram.
  • You can add the category of your business. What industry is your business in? In gray text underneath your business’ name, you can add it. So if you have a restaurant client, it will say restaurant under the business name.
  • You can see insights (analytics). This might be the most useful addition to the business profile—you can see insights of your posts to see if they’re social media strategy is working. Similar to Facebook Insights, you can watch a short video on how Instagram Insights work by clicking here.
  • Promoting your brand through Instagram ads is easy. You can promote any photo you’ve already shared, decide on a business objective (driving people to your website or driving people to contact you), a target audience, and the length of the campaign. See this video for step-by-step visual instructions on promoting your posts.

So how do you switch over to the business profile? Make sure you’re on your brand’s Instagram, click settings, then “Switch to Business Profile.” You have to have a Facebook page for your business, and you have to be an admin of that page to complete the business profile switch. It will then take your Facebook info and put it on the Instagram account, but you can always edit your Instagram profile to include whatever info you’d like to share. If you’re confused, see this video on switching over the account.

I would recommend any business switch to the business Instagram profile. It doesn’t take anything away from the Instagram experience, it only adds to it.
