SHD collageIt’s the New Year! For some, that could mean making a commitment to do better in work and in life. One way to do better is to rejuvenate or finally start up your company’s Giving Back program. And, there’s no time like January to get started. The importance of corporate social responsibility brings a sea of endless benefits to a workforce and community’s environmental and social wellbeing. That’s everything.

Whether you want to spend more time volunteering to a local cause or create a service to directly improve the community, the greater good is served.

Here’s how I view the importance of giving back:

Making a Difference
It’s amazing how one random act of kindness can make a difference in someone’s day or how spending three hours volunteering can greatly impact a nonprofit. One person’s activities in making a difference can easily inspire others, leading to a domino effect.

Happiness
The pure joy you feel from knowing you’re helping a worthy cause or seeing the happiness of other’s from your work is beyond rewarding.  Being happy is important!

Positive Work Culture
I know that I look forward to the days when HMA goes out of the office for a volunteer gig or participates in a client’s donation drive. It’s fun to join my team in helping others.

Building a Network
When an organization is actively helping out in the community, the face of the organization begins to get recognized and form a new network – a network with a shared passion in helping causes.

The importance of corporate social responsibility is whatever you make it out be. So take the New Year to figure out how you can make your community giving back programs even better.
