At the end of my senior year in high school, I was assigned the responsibility of not going to school for a month (sounds good to me) and instead doing an internship of my choice. Students had all different types of internships, from law firms to a company that makes sports training videos. For me, my plan was to intern for a magazine company, a dream I have had ever since working as the yearbook editor-in-chief in high school. My mom spoke with Abbie Fink, a PR friend of hers from Scottsdale Leadership who had connections all over the Valley. With no luck finding a magazine internship because of the short length of time, Abbie instead offered that I intern with her at her firm.
With my luck, I learned that the public relations industry is something that appealed to my creative, communicatory, and innovative talents. I enjoyed seeing how Scott, Abbie, Beth and Alison interacted with clients and created an appropriate environment in the office. It was a great learning experience for me.
Now, I’m back! This time, it’s for an internship for college, Arizona State University, and with a little more real-world experience under my belt. I plan on majoring in marketing in the business school, so this is a perfect opportunity for me. HMA has a nice client base with a variety of businesses and non-profits with which they work. I’m excited to be back and I thank Abbie for all of her help. And, if you ever stop by in the office over the summer, make sure to say hi to Hayley at the front desk, or give me a follow on Twitter!
