The controversy surrounding the Phoenix Suns’ Shawn Marion for Shaquille O’Neal trade in February should be coming to a screeching halt right about now.

Marion is now out for the season with a foot injury after playing 16 games for the Miami Heat, which has the NBA’s worst record.

Since joining the Suns, Shaq has averaged nearly 11 rebounds and 13 points per game. His arrival also marked the point when Amare Stoudemire began an impressive MVP run, albeit too late for this season.

The NBA’s Western Conference race reminds me of a great September baseball pennant race with nine teams within seven games of first place – fighting for the eight playoff spots.

Every game means something. The buzz throughout the community will only increase!
