Major League Baseball pitchers and catchers don’t report to their respective spring training sites for another month.
But more than 50 baseball has-beens and never-beens are in Tucson for the Sixth Annual Arizona Diamondbacks Fantasy Baseball Camp. I (Scott) am among the old men and two women, making my fourth appearance at the week-long camp.
This is a tremendous PR tool for the team. The D-Backs have the opportunity to cultivate and directly interact with dozens of baseball wonks from myriad walks of life who become unofficial faces of their fan base. A good-time-had-by-all goes a long way in establishing and maintaining customer loyalty, even if the recent product has been less than competitive. And you can bet the campers are quick to share their fun stories before, during and after the baseball season!
Joining us again and broadcasting their morning show from our clubhouse are Tim and Willy from KMLE Country 108. They’re PLAYING the country hits alright – but if they could just GET a few more on-the-field hits – all of their teammates would be much happier.
Okay. I’m on deck. Is this a hit parade?
