Washington Federal’s Yuma Branches Support 21 Kids Through Angel Tree Project

(YUMA, Ariz. – Dec. 22, 2016) – Washington Federal’s Yuma Branches, which are located at 1315 4th Ave. and 100 E. 32nd St. in Yuma, respectively, were able to support 21 kids this holiday season through the Arizona Children’s Association “Angel Tree” project. The branches partnered with the University of Arizona, Yuma campus. Customers and community members donated money so that branch members could purchase something on the wish list of an “angel”—a local child in need.

“It makes me proud and excited to have been able to help so many children who deserve to have a wonderful, memorable Christmas,” said Gina Kutas, Washington Federal assistant vice president and Yuma Catalina branch manager. “At Washington Federal, we give back to our community throughout the entire year, but we realize the holiday season is a unique and special time, so we are happy to have been able to be the host of an Angel Tree.”

One program the Yuma branches host year round is Save at School, a financial literacy platform for elementary and middle schools that help students learn the habit of thrift by making modest but regular deposits during on-site school ‘Bank Days,’ held once or twice each month and overseen by local Washington Federal staff.

“We also match each initial $5 opening deposit to a Save at School account dollar-for-dollar,” said Kutas, noting the program is in more than a dozen schools across Arizona and currently accepting inquiries to expand further for the next school year.

Kutas also notes that the Washington Federal Foundation, the bank’s donation arm, is now accepting grants from nonprofits across Yuma County. For more information, or to apply for a local Washington Federal Foundation grant, please visit www.washingtonfederal.com and click on “community relations” or call 541-880-5228 and ask for the community relations team. Turnaround time for decisions on grant proposals may range from 30 to 90 days. Approved proposals may range from $500 up to $5,000 maximum.

“Since 2014, Washington Federal has supported economic development and underserved communities with more than $630 million in loans, investments and charitable contributions across our eight-state footprint,” said Kutas.
