The NHL lockout may have thawed, but it provided plenty of time for the Phoenix Coyotes to melt some hearts. Howler, along with more than twenty volunteers, visited Junior Achievement of Arizona (JAAZ) to join Don Mensendick School students in JA BizTown2®, a simulated town in which 5th and 6th graders learn about the free enterprise system. The students “live” a mock life including earning a salary and paying bills, thus teaching them the value of money and how to manage personal finances. Junior Achievement is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which believes that every child deserves an education in economics and finances in order to inspire and prepare them for success in a global economy. Serving Arizona’s youth since 1957, JAAZ prepares young people for the real world by showing them how to become self-sufficient, how to create jobs which make their communities robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.
