The streamlining of news operations has hit again, as KTVK-TV Channel 3, KPHO-TV Channel 5, and KPNX-TV Channel 12 are going to share helicopter footage for their breaking news and traffic.

Now when we look up at the hovering news-covering whirly-birds, there will be one generic helicopter with no station logos. You can bet KNXV-TV Channel 15 and KSAZ-TV Channel 10 will have their promotions departments ramping up for some "exclusive helicopter coverage" to be splashed on all available promo spots.

The pooling of aerial footage also means that a few more journalists are out of jobs.

But this news pales in comparison to when the wave of expiring contracts for the big-name anchors hits, likely coming soon to a station near you.
