Choose your own adventure, LeBron!

I love many things – chief amongst them are basketball and those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from the 1980s.

Today, I combine the two to talk about one heck of a public relations problem in South Beach.

The gist: I’ve had a week to revel in the joy that is LeBron James’ epic failure to win an NBA Title this year. I’ve been tickled at the poetic justice that the only “decision” made during the NBA Playoffs that mattered was Dirk Nowitzki’s decision to outplay Mr. “Decision-Maker” himself. I’ve laughed at loud at James’ image taking further beating based on the impossibly unprepared answers coming out of his mouth in the wake of his loss.

Now, I want to weigh-in on how he can fix his image. Right now, James’ can choose his own public relations adventure. To me, here are his paths…

  • Lock yourself in a gym all summer long with your teammates, ensuring they are all tweeting about the quality “team” time at all hours of the day to show you are not simply in it for yourself.
  • Volunteer time – not just money. No one will think you give a crap about anyone but yourself unless you do something for someone besides yourself.
  • Make fun of yourself. SNL is off for the summer – but Funny or Die is available 24/7 and has become a go-to resource for the most humiliated of superstars.
  • Continue listening to the “yes men” on your team and continue to be considered a total jerk.

I am sure there are many more paths – would love to hear what you think he should do and the path you think he will really take. Comment away!

I vote Funny or Die! That would be an excellent adventure, or bogus journey (yay 80s references!)

I could not agree more. LaBron’s ‘I’m the chosen one, I’m the king and you suck’ persona sucks. He may win a championship someday, but a little humility would not hurt. I can’t imagine buying ANYTHING he endorses and I imagine there are many out there who feel the same. He’s no Micheal Jordan and makes Kobe Bryant look cuddly. YUCK, whatajerk!

I love the suggestions! Furthermore, I think if James can volunteer, while in gym lock-down with his teammates during a ‘funny or die’ video, he will certainly meet his full potential as an over-payed star!!
