Today’s tip comes from Abbie’s sister Sandy, an elementary physical education teacher in Glendale, Calif.

Take it away, Sandy!

"Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours."

These are the words my students hear everyday after we recite the Pledge of Allegiance. It is a simple statement, but definitely words to live by. When appropriate, I integrate it into my lessons,

For instance, if I have a student who is smiling, helping out other students, I say “I guess you decided to make it a great day.”

And the opposite, if a student is acting a little cranky I remind him/her of what they heard earlier in the day and ask them if they are waiting until later to make it a great day.

Either way, it is an opportunity to remind students about the choices they make in every situation.

So will you make it a great day?

    Thanks HMA, I am honored,

  2. Sandy – excellent words to live by. We really do have the choice, each and every day. Thanks for being a guest contributor.

  3. I know of a friend and former client who has “Make it a great day” on his voice mail. And he decides to that regularly!
