“What is…” Wednesday – What are the five deadly sins of communicating in a “digitoral era”?

Today’s tip is all because of Catchphrase – and the brilliant way our own Scott Hanson used it to teach a PR lesson.

You see, he asked for our team to take part in a rousing game of Catchphrase during a staff meeting recently. After a few rounds, Scott noted how many “ums,” “ahs,” and “ohs” we all said out loud while mentally thinking of clues to give to the secret words. He then reminded us of how, when giving a media training, we teach our clients about silent thinking and then speaking in order to eliminate those words and get to the point. BRILLIANT!

So, what other games can help PR pros brush up on their own skills or develop new ones?

I could think of a few – Monopoly to help us oft-mathematically challenged communicators understand dollars and cents as well as financial strategy; The Game of Life to help us think long term rather than solely in the moment; and SORRY to help us develop thicker skins.

Who can think of more?

And, does this mean we need to plan a PR game night soon? I am totally in!
