Today’s tip is dedicated to the fabulousness that is Nancy Myrland and her regular “Myrland Marketing Moments,” great nuggets of wisdom on marketing communications and business in perfect social media morsels.

One of her most recent morsels really resonated with me…Google is your friend.

She suggests to set up Google Alerts for five current clients and to do the same for two prospective clients. It is such an easy way to know all of them better.

I would even go one step further – ensure your staff, including any interns, are doing the same. The entire office should be keeping up on all of your client and prospective client news. It may even be a good idea to review any major things uncovered from Google Alerts in your weekly or monthly staff meetings.

For us, we also put alerts on keywords. These, in turn, help with story idea generation.

How do you make Google your friend – and business tool?

I also Google alert myself, potential boyfriends, ex-boyfriends and Justin Timberlake. Really a great tool all around.
