This tip for Tuesday is dedicated to something I love…gossip, in a good way.

No, I am not talking about spending half an hour by the water cooler discussing the downfall of American Idol or snipping about a crazy co-worker.

Instead, I am talking about turning a phrase we all use at least 10 times a day into a communications advantage: How are you?

But, really ask – and really care.

You would be surprised how much information you can get by asking someone how they really are and what is really going on in their lives – I think of it as creating positive gossip.

This gossip has turned out some of the most surprising facts about my clients:

And you better believe positive gossip like this goes into story pitching, event planning, speechwriting and even award entries for the clients down the line. Plus, it is simply FUN to get to really know people in our business lives.

    I am doing well.

    This morning was a bit rough because it was hard to transition back to Windows and mediocre software from using the presentation software on Mac that I proficiently use and have implemented in my classroom. I was very frustrated and had a hard time articulating my frustration to my professors. I showed her some work samples of what I am capable of using my tools and she finally let me stop doing the class assignment and let me work on a more advanced tool.
