#MediaMonday – Fun Katy

Fresh off a full weekend of work – for a good cause – we are pleased to profile Sports 620 KTAR’s own “Fun Katy” today as part of our regular #MediaMonday column. She is a member of the morning team on the popular Doug & Wolf Show as well as a trailblazer among Arizona media in getting into the social space – effectively – with her daily “Getting Social with Fun Katy” segments.

Personally, Katy is also one of my favorite “friends” on Twitter. Nope, we’ve never met. But I feel like we are kindred spirits in being females, loving sports and both HATING Tiger Woods and the Fakers…er…Lakers.
And I was serious about her working all weekend. She spent about 20 hours this weekend working the first-ever Sports 620 KTAR “Cornhole Cup” for charity, which raised thousands of dollars for Valley youth.
But, I digress!
Fun Katy – what do YOU want to tell the blogosphere about yourself today?
Most days I can’t believe I actually get paid to do what I do. Live radio is an adrenaline rush like no other. 8:03 a.m. to 8:11a.m. is the best eight minutes of my day. I get to hang out with two of the most unique men in the Valley: a four-time NFL Pro Bowler and the most argumentative guy to come out of Ohio. We sit in a frigid studio and talk about my favorite topic: sports.
Some people don’t know that my full-time job at KTAR is as the Events & Marketing Coordinator. I plan, manage, and staff all events for News-Talk 92.3 and Sports 620. It lets me be creative, satisfies my incessant need for details, and allows me to meet some of the most interesting people in this state.
I love the combination of things I get to do at KTAR. They even let me host videos, everything from the madness of the Waste Management Open to getting behind the chutes with the Professional Bull Riders. And a few weeks ago, the web team at ArizonaSports.com added my name to the “Columnists” section. I get to write for the site each week and the only instruction given is “write on a subject you’re passionate about.”
I’m fascinated with social media and the newest platforms for connecting with others. I can’t get enough of the latest Facebook functions and Twitter upgrades. I’m learning to create engagement and different ways of branding in the digital space. I love what I do and where I work because I’m not restricted to one job or thought process. I get to be original in video, digital, events, and on the air.
Passion is what drives me. Helping others is what gets me up before the sun every day. I don’t back down from a challenge or say “no” to more work in hopes of growing into my niche as a female digital personality in the sports world.
I love sports because they’re unpredictable. No two games are ever the same. I think that’s why I love my job so much. No two minutes are ever the same.
